Basement Egress Window Installation in the Des Moines Area

Egress windows serve two important purposes — they increase your family’s safety by offering a convenient escape route, and they add a lot of natural lighting to your basement. This small addition could transform your downstairs space and could even allow you to add another bedroom to your home, as building codes require a window for basement rooms that are the proper size for a safe escape. If you want to upgrade your basement and add value to your home, rely on the team at Basement RX.

The Egress Installation Process
To install the egress window, we start by excavating and removing the soil in the surrounding area. Once the soil is cleared, we’ll cut the opening in the basement wall and dispose of the debris. Next, we’ll add a drain to the existing footing tile and mortar in the window. We’ll install the window well and lay the river rock in the bottom of the well, then install the lid if you choose to purchase one.

Choosing the Right Egress Window
We carry Windows Unlimited-brand egress windows, which are premium, inswing, full-vinyl, and Low-E glass. While style is always important when it comes to choosing windows, keep in mind that an egress window could end up being your primary escape route during an emergency. When selecting an egress window, be sure to consider the following:

  • Size — Your window should be big enough for you to crawl through
  • Functionality — Swinging and sliding windows take less time to open
  • Local building codes — Our experts will make sure that your window complies with local codes
